The following precautions are to be taken care of when playing with Fireworks.

"Let this diwali burn all your bad times and enter you in good times...."

1.Store water in at least two buckets and keep it ready near the place of fireworks celebrations.

2.Keep a wet towel ready to cover your exposed parts when some crackers may accidentally burst in the face.

3.Keep the regulators of your cooking gas cylinders turned off and do not keep the cylinders in balconies or open spaces to keep them protected from stray rockets.

4.Put earplugs (or cotton wool) in your ears.

5.Wear cotton clothes while playing with fireworks. Wear full undergarments to be on the safe side to protect your skin.

6.Keep small portable extinguishers handy for urgent use.

7.Keep the telephone numbers of fire, ambulance, police etc stored on your cells and by the telephone.

8.Use proper directions when handling fireworks. Don’t forget to physically examine the individual pieces of crackers etc before lighting them as some have wicks on the wrong end that eventually may blast or burn on your side.

9.Keep some safe distance from others who are celebrating in the fireworks to avoid collisions. Watch your step when using fireworks on the terraces especially.

10.Use noninflammable containers to put the rockets ready for lighting and release.

11.The elderly will do well to keep themselves indoors as long as possible to keep away form noise and air pollution for longer periods. Those sick should see that they have not missed their regular dose of medicines like BP, Diabetic tablets etc.

12.Drink adequate amounts of water on the night of Diwali.

13.Keep the unused/ reserve stock of fireworks away from the lighting areas.

14.See that the decorative lamps lining the parapet walls should not burn any cloth lines and leaf and flower garlands hanging thereabouts.

15.Check the interior and the roof of your home from time to time during the night to detect any fire. To the extent possible, keep at home on the night of Diwali day to watch your house.

16. In the stock of fireworks, separate explosive crackers from those illuminating ones and keep them separately in different boxes to lessen the impact in case of sudden fire.

17. When playing with chakras and pencils/ sparklers, raise your head as well as your hand a bit higher at convenient angle to avoid sparks falling on your feet and clothes.

18. Do not rub your eyes in case of smoke getting into them. Wash your eyes with cold water.

19. Keep cracking with an eye on safety.

Happy and Prosperous Diwali Celebrations....
